Doreen joined the ABE Rhode Island team in December of 2016 as a site coordinator. Since then, she’s become the site director, and has worked alone or with a small team to distribute kits, communicate with teachers, and hold PDIs. According to Master Teacher Fellow David Upegui, working with Doreen has been an honor and privilege:

She has proven to be a flexible leader and an outstanding advocate for biotechnology education in Rhode Island. Her contributions to the ABE program go far beyond simply coordinating the distribution of the ABE kits, and encompass the development of young minds through direct mentoring as well as supporting teachers in developing their own skills so they can be more impactful in the classroom. I have come to deeply appreciate her creativity, attention to details, and her patience. For example, even during the COVID-19 pandemic she has found ways to train new teachers and increase the reach of the program to the students with the greatest needs. Dr. Osgood is a beacon of light in Rhode Island, and her efforts are powerful reminders that education offers humanity hope for a better future.
